The Teacher Education Department of Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc Campus held its Pinning and Oath Taking Ceremony last September 20, 2024, Friday, spearheaded by the Student Teachers’ Association (STA) at the EVSU-OC Covered Court.
The event solemnly began with a mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Fritz Francis P. Del Pilar, highlighting the importance of giving the best of their ability as pre-service teachers, as they will not only teach but also learn. Following the mass, Dr. Beatrice D. Mabitad, Head of the Education Department, warmly welcomed the attendees, honoring not just their hard work and dedication but the significant beginning of their roles as educators, agents of change, and inspiration.
Continuing the program, Ms. Lyca Emerald B. Fuentes, the invited guest speaker, delivered an inspirational message that encouraged the students to embrace the challenges and responsibilities that come with the teaching profession. She said, “Embrace your responsibility with pride, humility, and dedication. Know that the seeds you plant in the hearts of your students will grow into strong, fruitful trees of knowledge and wisdom. As you wear your pin, let it be a reminder of your commitment to serve, your dedication to learn, and your role in shaping the future of our nation.”
The most anticipated part of the event, the pinning ceremony, highlighted 427 pre-service teachers from various programs: BSEd Math with 59 students, BTVTEd with 71 students, BSEd Science with 90 students, BPEd with 102 students, and BEEd with 105 students. The pinning symbolized the students’ readiness to enter the field of teaching and marked a significant milestone in their academic journey. During the ceremony, students participated in the pledge and candle lighting, a tradition that underscores the values of commitment and integrity in the teaching profession.
As the ceremony drew to a close, a tribute song titled “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson echoed, adding an emotional touch to the event, honoring both the students and the profession they are about to enter. Dr. Guillermo M. Sodomia, the STA Adviser I, gave the closing remarks, expressing his gratitude to the officers, field study instructors, and all participants for their efforts in organizing the event and contributing to its success.
