Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Ormoc campus successfully conducted its first Activity on the Hydroponics Project which aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture practices among local farmers of Barangay Danao. The event took place today and attracted participants from various backgrounds eager to learn modern farming techniques that require minimal land and water usage.

The activity included discussions on general background information of hydroponic systems, plant nutrient management, and the benefits of the new method of farming led by the Head of Technology Department,  Prof. Allan Reynaldo Mabitad, and the facilitator Prof. Arneil Pepito. Attendees expressed enthusiasm about integrating hydroponics into their agricultural practices, recognizing its potential to enhance food security and income generation in the community.

Additionally, a consultation meeting was held earlier today with key stakeholders, including the Department of Education (DepEd) representative, barangay officials, and potential participants for two upcoming projects of the Teacher Education Department. The proponent of the MaReHTes (Managing Reading at Home and Teaching Strategies) for Parents Project, Prof. Georgina Orbeta and the proponent of the Adult Literacy on Business Mathematics, Prof. Beatrice D. Mabitad discussed the project’s objectives and activities.

The university plans to continue its outreach and training programs, fostering closer ties with government agencies and local stakeholders to achieve more resilient and sustainable agricultural and educational sectors in the region.
