“Naugtas naman ko aris CE, gibagsak na nako tanan.”
For many civil engineering students, the demanding schoolwork is really overwhelming. However, the National Civil Engineering Month (NCEM) activities provided a reviving reprieve, allowing students to promptly step away from their hellish situation.
The culminating event of this year’s Civil Engineering (CE) days, hosted by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers-Eastern Visayas State University Ormoc Student Chapter (PICE-EVSU OSC) yesterday, November 21, was a lively celebration filled with electrifying energy and friendly competition.
The day kicked off with a thrilling Amazing Race, with eight unique stations, each comprising a different challenge. Teams raced against the clock, with a goal to complete all stations in the shortest time possible. To add a layer of excitement, each participating team was tasked with protecting an egg from ‘ninjas’ attempting to crack it. This challenge not only tested their speed but also their teamwork and strategic minds on how to protect their egg.
The event continued in the afternoon with Laro ng Lahi Version 2.0, which included games such as Duck Cover and Race, Caterpillar, Happy Birthday, Hear Me an Animal Zoo, and Catch the Dragon’s Tail. These games stimulated a spirit of joy among the students, allowing them to bond outside of their academics.
After all the games, a unity dance was performed by all civil engineering students, proving that they can do more than just solving math problems. As the anticipation erected, the culmination of the day’s events drew near—the much-awaited awarding ceremony.
After so much suspense, the placements were announced: Analytic Asphalts claimed the 3rd runner-up spot, followed by Integral Scaffolds as the 2nd runner-up, and Structural Gravels secured the 1st runner-up title. Rigid Rebars were declared the overall champion, provoking deafening screams from their faction.
As the day rounded, it was evident that this event was not just about games; it was about gaining new friends, making golden memories, and emphasizing the idea that even if the Civil Engineering program is hard, you can still have fun sometimes.
The activity proved that despite the obstacles that lie ahead the road, one can draw strength from another and embrace this path together. This may be the end of the 3-day NCEM event, but this is also just the beginning of the amazing and unexpected friendships formed among civil engineering students.
