The Eagles have soared high again!
Eastern Visayas State University—Ormoc Campus claimed the prestigious title of Grand Champion in the Piña Festival 2025 Grand Showdown held on June 22 at the Ormoc City Sports Complex.
The vibrant celebration kicked off with the booming sound of the Piña Festival’s theme song echoing through the streets of Ormoc City. Colorful floats led the grand parade, followed by street dancers in flamboyant costumes, each group proudly representing their respective contingents.
Adding a spectacle of artistry, Ormocanons paraded their towering, awe-inspiring creations in the Higantes Competition, blending seamlessly with the pulsating rhythms of the floats’ audio and the electrifying chants of the street dancers.
The grand parade culminated at the Ormoc City Sports Complex, where all contingents geared up for the ultimate showdown.
As darkness cloaked the city, the spotlight turned to the dance arena. Contingents lit up the stage with breathtaking performances, filling the night with color, rhythm, and spirit.
In the Higantes Competition, Piña Ormocana by EVSU-Ormoc Campus claimed 1st Place, followed by Queen Pineapple of Ormoc and Reyna Dayaw – The Shining Heart of Ormoc. Western Leyte College – Pundok Kasadpan earned Best Float/Audio Van, with their very own Issie Challis crowned as Piña Festival Queen. Ipil National High School – Pundok Madasigon won Best in Streetdance. In the Grand Showdown, Lilo-an National High School placed 2nd Runner-Up, and New Ormoc City National High School took 1st Runner-Up.
Closing the night with brilliance, Eastern Visayas State University – Ormoc Campus emerged as Grand Champion of Piña Festival 2025, taking home a cash prize of ₱700,000. Their performance was more than a dance—it was a powerful story of discipline, culture, and heart. In that moment, under the dazzling lights and roaring cheers, the Eagles didn’t just soar—they inspired.
