The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, EVSU OSC, held its first peer tutorial session of the academic year at EVSU-OC Luna Extension, in collaboration with the Patriot EVSUnista’s Robust Institute of Ormoc DOST Scholars (PERIODS) on September 23, 2024.
The PERIODS’ President, Vice President, and Treasurer were the tutors for the session: Mr. Ian M. Macabalitao, Mr. Ronie Jr. T. Wenceslao, and Mr. Jestoni S. Gindoy, respectively. PICE EVSU OSC’s peer tutorial session was intended to support students academically, particularly in challenging subjects like trigonometry. PERIODS’ tutors initiated the session by explaining important trigonometric concepts, verifying basic identities, and allowing students to solve equations alongside the discussion.
โWhy Trigonometry? In previous years, this subject was where 1st year CE students struggled the most; they either struggled through it or failed the subject entirely,โ PICE Vice President Ms. Bea Rabaya said, emphasizing the significance of learning the basics of trigonometry as a foundation to comprehend other math subjects better.
As the session proceeds with the next batches, the organization hopes that these peer tutorial sessions will enable the 1st year Civil Engineering students to develop a sense of collaboration and engagement with the engineering community while fostering their academic capabilities to meet the demands of the Civil Engineering program.
