Ormoc City held its annual State of the City Address (SOCA) today, October 14, 2024, at the Ormoc City Superdome, marking a significant moment of reflection and progress.
The event formally commenced with the recitation of amendments to local ordinances, showcasing the cityโs continuous efforts to update and enhance its governance.
Thereafter, the procession of City Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez, her husband, Congressman Richard I. Gomez, and their daughter, Juliana Marie Beatriz Gomez, began. Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez made her way to the podium to deliver her address, beginning with a poignant Bible verse from Galatians 6:7, โA man reaps what he sowsโ (NIV), in which she emphasized, recognized, and commended the endeavors and efforts of those who contributed to the development of the city.
Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez continued onwards with her sincere and awe-inspiring speech. Alongside her team that has supported her and the cityโs development, they showcased the growth of Ormoc under the leadership of Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez over the past 3 years.
In her address, Mayor Gomez reflected on her journey as a mayor, describing it as โpainful yet also very joyful,โ adding that leading the city has been the honor of her life. Her sincere and moving speech highlighted the challenges and triumphs of her leadership.
She commended her dedicated team, who supported her vision and helped realize the cityโs transformation. From infrastructure development to community initiatives.
In a memorable conclusion, Mayor Gomez quoted renowned interior designer Elsie de Wolfe, saying, โI am going to make everything around me beautifulโthat will be my life.โ She then rephrased the sentiment, pledging her continued commitment to the city: โI will make Ormoc City beautiful. That will be my life.โ Her closing remarks resonated with the audience, encapsulating her vision of a brighter future for Ormoc.
