Rain or shine, the Ormoc City Sports Complex echoed with the ominous howl of Hades’ hound, the resounding cry of the majestic Phoenix, and the looming presence of the formidable Dark Kraken as they converged upon the arena.
Earlier today, Eastern Visayas State University- Ormoc Campus students and faculty were filled with anticipation and radiated excitement for the school year, as the Intramural Games 2023 took center stage.
A parade of factions symbolizing the participation of the Departments of Education- the Blue Pheonix, Engineering- the Red Cerberus, and the Dark Kraken from Computer Studies, Industrial Technology, and Business and Management during the kick-off of the event. Their cheers and enthusiasm were building to a crescendo.
A source of inspiration from the 2019 SEA Games Gold Medalist, Ms. Princess Honey Arbilon captured the hearts of the student-athletes, through sharing her heartfelt words.
“The journey wasn’t always easy. All you can see in the social media is the achievements and accomplishments I got, but behind that I faced setbacks, moments of self-doubt, being down by my own relatives, and I had to learn how to handle both success and failure… So to my dear co-athletes, if I can, then you can too! Give it a try. Enjoy and keep going because we never know what’s coming”, Arbilon stated.
The symbolic torch was ignited by the Regional SCUAA 2023 athletes and the raising of team banners marking the commencement of the event. Nathaniel Parilla, Region 8 SCUAA 2022 Gold Medalist in Dancesport led the Oath of Amateurism for the athletes, and Mr. Franz Martin Callano, Sports Development Office Coordinator headed the Oath for Officiating Officials. Additionally, the Bachelor of Physical Education Students performed a captivating playground demonstration that manifested unity, strength, and power.
On behalf of Dr. Jeffry V. Ocay, the EVSU-OC Campus Director, Dr. Joergen T. Arradaza, the Head of the Student Affairs and Services Office (SASO), officially declared the inauguration of the EVSU-OC Intramurals 2023 with the theme “Faster, Higher, Stronger EVSU Ormoc.”
