In an exhilarating match of spectacle skill, strategy, and stamina-fueled gameplay, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Women’s Volleyball team prevailed as champions after they made an epic comeback in the neck-to-neck battle against Western Leyte College on March 2, 2024, at Linao Covered Court during the championship of intercollegiate match games.
After being hailed as rank 1 in the Women’s Division, the mighty Eagles once again proved their spot, displaying their strength and tactics as they took the early lead during the first set of the game with a commanding score of 25-17.
As the match progressed, the opposing team’s also brought their unique gameplay, lightning-fast reflexes, and unwavering dedication to mount a rebound, resulting in a mess-up momentum for the Eagle’s team, culminating in a narrow defeat in the second set with a score of 23-25.
The rivals continued to pour an ace that broke the deadlock of the Eagle’s team and dominated the third set once again with a score of 18-25, bringing the overall standing to 2-1 in their favor. Emotions ran high throughout the court as the team began to falter, feeling the pressure against them.
Despite the struggle to fight back, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Women’s Volleyball team kept their composure, coordination, and individual prowess. The team fought tooth and nail and gained their momentum back on the fourth set, resulting in a score of 25-23 and a victory score of 16-14 in a five-set thriller.
In an interview with Phoebe Kaye Baldesco, who clinched the title as Best Libero and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Game, “First of all po, diri namon inaasahan na madaog po kami, bagan an amo second set and third set po bagat waray na kami hope na magdaog pa kami, kay amon score super tagilid na po,” Baldesco said.
Fighting with utmost dedication, they almost lost their tracks toward success, but their fearless response to the challenge propelled them towards becoming champions.
