“So, when did the Business and Management Department started?”
Way back in 2000, the EVSU-OCC was already functional with three (3) departments: the Engineering Department; the Teacher Education Department; and the Industrial Technology Department (former Technology department). Each department offered a variety of courses. Under the Engineering Department, they offered three (3) courses, namely: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE); Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE); and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). Also, under the Teacher Education Department, they offered Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED); and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) with three (3) majors: Mathematics, Science and Technology, and Livelihood Education (TLE). Lastly, the Department of Industrial Technology offered only one (1) course with three (3) different majors, namely: Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIndTech) Major in Electronics; Food Technology; and Hotel and Restaurant Technology.
In 2007, a new course was added to the Industrial Technology Department, one of which is the Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Technology (BSHRT). Under the management and supervision of Dr. Sansen P. Tolorio, being the Department head.
In 2018, there was a change of nomenclature for the program Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Technology (BSHRT) to Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) by virtue of Board Resolution No. 666-H, series of 2018.
In addition to this, Prof. Gerry B. De Cadiz, as the Campus Director, announced a new program and decided to separate it from the Industrial Technology Department. The new program was approved and passed the qualifications of the CMO by the help of the Campus Director. The EVSU-OCC offered a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management formerly known as the Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Technology with a new department, the Business and Management Department.
In 2021, Prof. Gerry B. De Cadiz, the former campus director of EVSU OCC endorsed to members of Academic Council the Business Department as an additional department for EVSU OCC and the transfer of BSHM program from the Technology to Business Management department. In addition, he presented as well the intent of the campus to offer new program in the future such as Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and adopt three programs from the main campus, the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Marketing all of which will be under the Business and Management Department.
