With a theme, “Mythical Portrayals: Bringing Philippine Ancient Mythology Characters to Life,” the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Science second-year students of Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc (EVSU-OC) organized their culminating activity as part of their course, LIT 001. Held on May 24, 2025, at EVSU-OC Function Hall. Said event was created to allow students to foster a greater understanding of arts and literature, as “literature is connected to human experiences,” said Ms. Kelly Cameron Rodriguez, the literature subject instructor. The main goal for this activity was to showcase the passion for creative thinking and to ignite the spark within the future educators in the world of literature. By exploring the depths of literary works, they’ll develop a strong sense of appreciation and build a transformative potential of creative expression. The activity featured sophomores portraying and embodying various Philippine Mythology characters, including their traits and symbols, and showcasing deep understanding and accurate representation of these characters. Each student showed their remarkable confidence, charisma, and powerful performance during the runway segment. Moving into the next part, one of the main highlights of the activity was the awarding of students who showed exemplary performances. For the major award, Ms. Rikka Mae Calderon and Ms. Elizabeth Buayaban bagged the “Mythic Essence: Best Portrayal (Pair) Award.” While for the Minor Awards, Ms. Gwenette Pestaño and Ms. Divine Trisha Poliquit attained the “Mythic Insight: Character & Symbol Mastery Award,” and Ms. Fatima Nahriza Parilla and Mr. Jan Bert Doble claimed the “Stellar Stage Presence Award.” It was then concluded by the closing remarks of one of the judges, Mr. Elromer S. Taripe. The activity ended on a high note, leaving students not only nurtured by the subject course but also empowered with boundless possibilities of imagination and innovation. Indeed, it was a celebration of a vibrant spectrum of literature where timeless stories and modern adaptations transpire.
