Embarking on a journalistic journey, the 3-day Basic Campus Journalism Training (BCJT) 2024 has now come to an end yesterday, July 6, 2024, at the Eastern Visayas State University Ormoc Campus, Function Hall.

Ms. Erika Tan, a former Managing Editor of Observer, led the morning program with an enlightening session, generously sharing her knowledge and expertise on the topic of “opinion writing and feature writing.” She shared her extensive knowledge, presenting thought-provoking and data-driven topics in opinion writing and emphasizing the importance of creativity in crafting compelling feature writing stories.

Also, a former Editor-In-Chief of Observer, Ms. Irene Kay Descartin presented “The Art of News Writing,” encouraging writers to remain steadfastly committed to the truth. “Always remember that whenever we write about something that is controversial, we should always uphold the truth,” she noted.

Following these sessions, the highly anticipated turn-over ceremony and awarding ceremony commenced. Ms. Mary Alexane Montesclaros, the outgoing Editor-In-Chief delivered a heartfelt message, expressing her gratitude and wishes to the new generation of campus journalists. This was then followed by the oath-taking ceremony, where the new set of journalists pledged their commitment to carrying the torch of journalism and continuing their pursuit of truth.

Meanwhile, the awarding ceremony recognized the graduating staff and the ongoing staff who showed exemplary performance during BCJT 2024. Furthermore, the graduating staff shared their journey, words of gratitude, and best wishes for the new generation of campus journalists.

The BCJT 2024 ended with the closing remarks of Ms. Mari Joy Tumulak, the Managing Editor of the Observer, where she extended her gratitude to the staff for a job well done during the 3-day training. Indeed, it was a remarkable journalistic experience filled with fun memories and knowledge that will be invaluable in the future.
