The graduating scholars across different universities and colleges in Region VIII participated in the Department of Science and Technology- Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI)Regional Office VIII Exit Conference 2024, held at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City, last June 5, 2024.
There were seven scholars from Eastern Visayas State University- Ormoc Campus, specifically from the Engineering and Teacher Education Departments, accompanied by EVSU-OC’s scholarship coordinator, Dr. Joergen T. Arradaza, Jr. who had partaken in the said event. Dr. John Glenn D. Ocaña- DOST VII OIC- Regional Director, welcomed and congratulated the scholars for making it through their undergraduate courses and partially fullfiling their responsibilities as the nation’s scholars.
The conference was packed with an esteemed set of speakers, including Ms. Anne Chiara S. Amponin- DOST-SEI SRS II, Ms. Ma. Daisy Demoni-Sison DOST-SEI Supervising SRS, Dr. Vallerie Ann I. Samson, DOST-PNRI Deputy Director, Mr. Mark Gallano- DepEd RO8 Planning Officer II, Mr. Peter Philip V. Patef- DOLE Information Analyst II, and Ms.Mico May Regis-Cayaco- Registered Guidance Counselor. They have shared presentations and insightful talks with regards to the scholarship guidelines, orientation on DepEd deployment for Educations student-scholars, career opportunities, overcoming job search anxiety, and more projects and programs initiated and offered by DOST.
The young scholars who were about to face the challenges in the real world, were graced with heartwarming testimonies from Ms. Raisa M. Mendoza, Faculty Researcher Center for Engineering Science and Technology Innovation (CESTI) in SSU. As well as from Mr. Nestor Allan M. Matutes , Master Teacher I at Alang-Alang National High School . They emphasized that being a scholar does not stop after one gradauated, and more opportunities and responsiblities will unfold for the Iskolar ng Bayan in navigating the real world. Both of them shared how the DOST Scholarship greatly impacted their academic journey, and how it helped advanced their professional prowess and trajectory.
The conference concluded with a closing remarks delivered by Dr. Ramil T. Uy- Scholarship Coordinatir, and a photo opportunity with the speakers and the scholar attendees.
