Embarking on a four-day of journalistic exploration, the tertiary publication of EVSU-Main Campus, the Industrial Wheel, along with the tertiary publications of the external campuses, EVSU-Carigara (Talutang), EVSU-Dulag (The Liberators), EVSU-Burauen (An Sulog), EVSU-Tanauan (An Batingaw), and EVSU-Ormoc (Observer), gathered in an annual Basic Campus Journalism Training (BCJT) 2023 which commenced last November 28, 2023 until today, December 2, 2023.

The Industrial Wheel spearheaded the said training to reinforce the campus media across EVSU system.

The first day marked the onset of the knowledge-packed journey, with participants immersing themselves in the specialized field of sports writing lecture and workshop led by Dr. Paul Junrey A. Toyong. Day 1 laid the groundwork for the training by revealing the subtleties of encapsulating the excitement of a game and comprehending the core of an engaging sports narrative.

On the following day, the focus shifted to the visual realm of storytelling. Photojournalism, the forte of Sir Ed Tiquen, Jr., took center stage, guiding eager minds through the intricacies of capturing the essence of a moment through the lens. News writing unfolded along lessons on layout and graphics design, equipping participants with the skills to craft precise news complemented by visually engaging layouts. It was a simultaneous training headed by Ms. Christianne Faith A. Mahinay and Mr. Elkanah Torres.

Additionally, on the third day of training, the spotlight shone on the art of feature writing, developmental writing, and the captivating world of radio broadcasting. Mr. Stephen L. Esber headed the young journalists as they delved into the depths of storytelling, mastering the art of making compelling narratives that transcend the ordinary. By the afternoon, Ms. Mahinay discussed developmental writing focused on the avenues of societal pulse, fostering a sense of responsibility in wielding words. Radio broadcasting then took over, learning the emphasis of voice modulation, scriptwriting, and the power of spoken words through the guidance of Mr. Kevin Siosana.

Today, the fourth day of BCJT, participating journalists will assemble to culminate their dynamic trainings with their impressions, insights, and learnings drawn from a great pool of speakers and from a a wide array of journalism workshop experience.
